ChatGPT was the first major LLM launch that started it all. Built by OpenAI, ChatGPT is best known for its strong multi-modal LLM capabilities. This includes voice and image abilities on top of text completion and reasoning.

Their ecosystem includes desktop apps, mobile apps, and API access for developers. It requires an online account. They have multiple subscription tiers, including a basic free option for individuals, all the way up to large enterprise plans for big companies.

Their 2 flagship models are GPT-4o and GPT-4o mini. You can quickly swap between both LLM models depending on your use case, but the mini is intended for more “lightweight” tasks that don’t require as much compute.

On December 5, 2024, OpenAI introduced o1 pro mode. This new mode uses the best models with more compute power for very advanced reasoning.
